Start as internal software

Level was initially developed as an internal solution for Uncap, an early-stage financing provider. Uncap believes entrepreneurial potential is global, but opportunity is not, especially in Africa where a lack of financing stifles business growth. To make early-stage financing accessible, we aimed to provide small investments up to $50,000. These small tickets are usually not economically feasible, so we started creating a concept for a software to automate as much of the investment process as possible

First cohorts on Level

After first rounds of experimentation trying out the investment model and process, Uncap officially launched in 2021 with its first investment cohort and call for applications, receiving over 12,000 registrations. While the initial version of the software had its challenges, it was an invaluable learning experience that highlighted areas needing improvement, particularly in due diligence and turnaround times. Level was born.

Developed

Driven by a commitment to further streamline our operations and focus on further supporting entrepreneurs beyond financing, we refined Level based on firsthand feedback and live testing. Over the next year, we processed an additional 1,000 applications and conducted 500 due diligence processes. This rigorous real-world testing allowed us to enhance Level into a more powerful, effective tool.

SaaS exploration

Throughout this journey, we received numerous requests from other investors and accelerators interested in a white-label solution. However, it wasn’t until last year that we reached an inflection point and decided to expand our offering. With renewed focus, we conducted over 80 interviews, held 50 demos, and signed multiple customers to prepare for the launch of our first SaaS MVP.
